Tango Background Tap Background Catrine started tap dancing around 7 years of age... XXX Swing Dance Party at Cat's Corner May 13 It started 1979, I was 14 and someone asked me if I had considered to learn swing dance, I had not. I was into tap, jazz and show and had absolutely no thoughts of partner dancing. My goal was the 3 year balett academy school and after that concur the world as a famous and outstanding solo dancer. Well, it was probably a good idea I changed my mind cause nor did I have the talent that was needed but I also would have missed out on an entire amazing 30 years of Lindy dancing, teaching, traveling, performing and most important...the people!
I performed and competed in Jitterbug until I met Al Minns 1984, one of the legendary Whitey's Lindy Hoppers. He was my first Lindy Hop teacher and showed us (dancers in Sweden) what Lindy Hop was all about. By by ballet and all that jazz! A few years later our dance group "The Rhythm Hot Shots" invited Frankie Manning to come to Sweden and teach us some more of that crazy dance, The Lindy Hop. Frankie came 1987 and we spent a whole week with him at a place called Herrang. The Rhythm Hot Shots included six people at the time, me (Catrine Ljunggren), my partner Lennart Westerlund, Ewa Staremo, Anders Lind, Eva Lagerquist and Eddie Jansson. We thought it could be a good idea to share him with a few others, we started Herrang dance camp for Lindy Hopers....lately "the others "have been about 2000 happy dancers every summer! There is of course much much more to tell and I will share some of my stories with you at Cat's Corner on Wednesday May 13.
